Entertaining Made Easy with the Help of Your Smart Home

Hosting a party? Here’s how to dazzle your guests without taxing your time with Z-Wave technology

Whether you’re planning a holiday open house for the entire neighborhood or inviting close friends and family over for a feast, now’s the time to start prepping your home. Sure, you’ll want to give it a thorough cleaning, but there are other steps you can take to make entertaining guests a breeze. By adding a few smart Z-Wave devices to your home, you can get the party started with lively music, elegant lighting, and a warm and cozy environment. Your guests will be impressed and you’ll be able to control everything with just a tap of a finger or easier yet, the sound of your voice.

Let’s start with control. One of the toughest parts about being a party host is stepping away from the fun to fiddle with dials, buttons and switches. A Z-Wave control hub lets you manage the lights, music, thermostats, and more from an app on your phone. Here’s the best part: Nobody will even notice that you’re doing it. You can continue to socialize all while dimming the lights and lowering the temperature, for example. Is there a different song the group would prefer to hear? No problem. Just grab your phone and select something else. Your connected Z-Wave products will intercept and respond appropriately to your every command.

A party without music, well, just isn’t a party. Connect your voice-enabled smart speaker to your Z-Wave hub to easily trigger scenes like dinner time which will keep the music on in the background but not too loud so that people can’t carry on a conversation. Opting for a voice- a voice-enabled control hub, makes it easy for not just the host but for everyone in the room to summon a song. It’s like having your own personal DJ that plays all your requests. You can adjust the volume, skip over tracks, and shut down the system completely post-party without any fuss.

Lighting is another important entertainment component. Like music, lighting sets the right tone, mood and ambiance. Lively and festive or subdued and elegant, the intensity and color of your home’s lights can change on a dime when there’s a Z-Wave switch or outlet in charge. Consider swapping a few smart light bulbs for color-changing  versions for an extra special touch. Now with your phone you can synchronize the lights and music for the ultimate party vibe.

A house full of people is bound to drive up the indoor temperature. You can cool things off quickly with the help of a Z-Wave enabled thermostat and ceiling fan. Adjust them on a whim from your phone, or set a system notification to automatically trigger if the room rises to a certain temperature ensuring that everyone stays comfortable throughout the evening. Ready to call it a night? A “goodbye” command issued by your phone and control hub can turn off the music and brighten the lights as your guests make their way to the front door. As you bid them adieu, tap another button on your phone to activate the exterior lights. Then hit “goodnight” to activate the smart lock on the door, readjust the thermostat to a comfortable sleeping temperature, and arm the security sensors.
